Invading Freckles' Personal Space

Freckles:

I heard the high-voiced one open the portal, and I hunkered down against the wall of my cave. Maybe the annoying little pest wouldn’t find me inside, because I was pretty sure that my cave wasn’t here the last time he visited. No such luck. The sound of little feet stampeding toward my cave dashed my hopes of a peaceful afternoon. I would just have to make sure that the Alien knew from the get-go that this was MY cave and he had to stay out. NO ALIENS ALLOWED! I was figuring out how I was going to accomplish that when he suddenly stuck his head into the doorway, sniffing and snorting as though he were a bull.

The Visit

Deb:

A young girl lived at the home where Scrambles resided. It seemed that she has been having some allergic reactions to something, and they thought that the “something” might be Scrambles. They needed him to go stay elsewhere so that they could give the house a good cleaning and see if she got better. My son lived in an apartment where he could not keep a dog, so he wondered if we could take Scrambles for a week or so.

Scrambles had been to visit us a few times. An adorable little Chihuahua mix, he LOVED Freckles! He followed her everywhere and played with her toys. The problem was that Freckles didn’t love Scrambles. No matter how many times she lunged and grunted at him, he always came back for more. I’m pretty sure he thought she was playing with him. We all managed to survive the visits because they were short. But what would Freckles think if Scrambles stayed and didn’t leave as he always had before.

As I pondered and dusted, a little nervous about what was to come, a knock came at the front door and I heard the barking of a small dog. I opened the front door and welcomed my son and Scrambles to the house. Scrambles made a beeline for Freckles’ box.

IT'S BACK!!!

Freckles:

The sound of the knock on the portal brought me to my feet with my ears pointed forward and alert. It wasn’t the knock that had upset me so. Oh, no, a knock would not bother me in the least – it was sometimes interesting to see who followed the knock into the Other World. No, it was the noise that accompanied the knock that I found disturbing. It was a high-pitched yap –annoying and grating. I knew that sound from its owner’s last visit.

The Alien Creature had returned!

The Favor

Deb:

I spent the morning cleaning house -- the kitchen first, the bathrooms next, and finally the living room. I try to run the vacuum cleaner when Freckles isn’t in the room, because I know it upsets her. She doesn’t always run down the hall to her room anymore when I turn it on, but I know the noise bothers her ears. How could it not? But, she had remained entrenched in her box all morning, so I hadn’t had a chance to catch a time when she was gone. Therefore, I vacuumed as quickly as I could.

I was dusting the furniture in the living room with my Swiffer Duster (one of the top 10 greatest inventions ever!), when my youngest son called and asked a favor. I thought long and hard about his request, because I knew it would not make Freckles happy. However, a young child’s health was involved, so how could I say no?

A Knock on the Portal

Freckles:

It all started, as these things sometimes do, with a nap. I rested inside my giant cave in the Other World with visions of grassy fields piled high with bowls of carrots. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the high-voiced one bustling around waving a silly-looking fuzzy thing. She had already awoken me once with the roar of that huge monster she chases around the Other World on occasion. I have learned to ignore her and it, pretending I don’t notice the ear-grinding noise or intrusion they churn up.

I’d found that I could ignore most regular-occurring noises with the exception of Nice Guy’s arrivals and the rustling sound of food pouches. Those sounds have always brought my ears to attention and my heart leaping for joy. However, the sound that I suddenly heard on this afternoon was one that sent chills down my spine. I remembered that sound from a previous time and I also remembered the misery that accompanied it through the portal.

What Did Freckles Do? (Day 5)

Well, Deb here. Freckles let me try again, but I'd better not mess it up, or I'll be permanently demoted from any and all future games!

Here's Question Number 5 about our most scary story ever!

5) One day while Freckles was napping in her Home Place, she heard a lot of thumping and bumping going on in the Other World. She could hear voices that she didn’t recognize. She stayed where she was until she could figure it all out, but the strange voices making the strange noises came right into her Home Place and started moving things around! Freckles was outraged that they would invade her space.

Question: What Did Freckles Do? Did she remain where she was or did she attack the invaders?

Think really hard about the answer and then check in the comments to see if you were right!

What Did Freckles Do? (Day 4)

Freckles:

Okay, enough is enough. First, Deb gets sick and holds up my game, AND THEN the Internet connection goes kaput and we couldn't post! I'm taking over in order to get this show on the road! Here's the next question:
Question number 4: While I was in the Sky Place (Deb calls it the "Family Room"), Nice Guy came by to give me a present. I ran into the Slippery Ground Land to greet him and the present fell out of the sack he was carrying and rolled right past me.

Question: What did I Do? Did I chase after the object with the plan to return it to Nice Guy, or did I stay where I was and munch on some fresh leaves?

Bonus Question: What was the object?

Hmmm...This is a tough one! I really love fresh leaves -- but I really, really love Nice Guy, too!

After you've decided on your answer, check out the comments to see if you're right.

What Did Freckles Do? (Day 3)

Sorry, folks, Deb's been a bit under the weather and didn't get any more questions posted in a timely manner! But, she is better now, so here is question number 3!

At the beginning of last year, Freckles braved the Unexplored Territory (the area that Deb calls the Kitchen/Dining Room). She took refuge under a tree to check everything out. Suddenly, a terrible monster bellowed and Freckles quickly discovered another portal leading away from the Territory. She considered whether she should venture even farther from her Home Place.

Question: What Did Freckles Do? Did she go through the strange new portal or did she turn around and head for home?

Bonus Question: Who made the strange bellowing sound?

The answer to both questions will be found in the comment section!

What Did Freckles Do? (Day 2)

Well, everyone seemed to enjoy question number 1. Here's a picture of Freckles enjoying a little nap in her cave.

Are you ready for Question #2?
The day after the “cave decision” our city experienced a tornado (for real!) Freckles was at home all alone and Deb was quite worried about her. Even though it was a super scary time, Freckles managed to survive the disaster.

Question: What Did Freckles Do? Did she run to her room to hide in a safe place or did she protect the house?
(Just like yesterday, the answer to today's question is in the comments section.)

What Did Freckles Do?

Freckles’ and Deb’s past year left our dear little bunny facing down terrible monsters, alien creatures, and even a tornado. Before we begin relating new adventures this year, we thought we would look back at those previous adventures and have a little fun.

That’s right … it’s time to play the super duper fantastically entertaining game:

What Did Freckles Do?

In this game we’ll remind you of an anxiety-filled moment in one of our adventures and see if you can remember what our brave Freckles did when facing that danger. If you haven’t been with us all year, this will be a good way to catch you up on our story! So, here’s the first question:

1) Freckles started 2008 exploring a new place that had appeared in the Other World (The world that Deb refers to as the “Living Room.”) It was a small cave that looked safe, but Freckles remained skeptical. She took a nap and when she awoke she sniffed the aroma of a lovely odor coming from the little cave.

Question – What did Freckles do? Did she enter the cave or stay outside of it?

Bonus Question – What was the source of the lovely odor?

After you’ve thought of your answer, go to the comments section of this post to see if you got it right.

The Rainbow Bridge is a Lucky Place This Week

We were going to start telling a new story today, however our hearts are sad and our eyes are leaking because we have lost two dear bunny friends in the past week.

Hugo went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning after an illness. It looked like he was starting to get better, but we guess it was his time to cross. His dear friends Yowlyy and Miss Eve will need all of our thoughts to help them cope with his passing. Hugo was a beautiful white rabbit with wonderfully expressive eyes that were filled with wisdom and disapproval. Yet, if you check out their blog you’ll see lots of pictures of Miss Eve taking full advantage of his gentle nature! He didn't seem to mind when she sat on his head or squished him. He just seemed to love her even more! We’ll miss you Hugo.

Our other rabbit friend Gumpy left for the Rainbow Bridge on December 23rd. Gumpy had a sweet, innocent face and delighted in causing as many problems as possible for his mum and dad. There is a great picture on his blog of Gumpy and his ex-wife/best friend Myxi (who, much to everyone’s surprise, turned out to be a boy, so Gumpy decided Myxi could be his best friend instead of his wife) with their bodies completely inside a bag of pellets. All you can see are their little furry bottoms sticking out of the sack! Gumpy’s mum says that he passed away peacefully and quietly. We are sorry he had to go, but we bet he’s finding all kinds of ways to be “norty” on the other side of the bridge!

Let It Snow!

Deb & Freckles:

We’ve been pretty busy playing in the snow lately. Washington and Oregon have been having the biggest blizzard to hit our area in many, many years. News reports vary on just how long it’s been since we’ve seen so much snow (we’re talking feet instead of inches!), but it has been unique for our area. Unfortunately, there is a big problem with this year’s arctic blast:
  1. We don’t usually get this much snow, so our transportation departments don’t have enough equipment to handle it.

  2. It happened right before Christmas, so a lot of people haven’t been able to get to the stores to shop for gifts and food.

  3. Freckles has decided that she is NOT a snow bunny (as the pictures below where she’s wanting to go back inside will show.)

It’s snowing again as we type this, but it is supposed to change to freezing rain and then will start to warm up in the next few days. In the meantime, Deb’s sitting in her rocking chair watching it snow and enjoying a nice hot cup of chai tea, and Freckles stays cozy in her favorite box only coming out when there is the promise of food. She will eat a little fresh snow as long as she's in the mood and it is served to her on a plate INDOORS.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here are our pictures of the snow of 2008 in the Pacific Northwest:
